Serving
Locally or Abroad

The Bible teaches that God calls all believers to serve. Here are some key ways:

  • Through Jesus' Example: Jesus Himself came not to be served, but to serve and give His life as a ransom for many (Matthew 20:28). This sets the ultimate example of selfless service.
  • The Great Commission: In Matthew 28:19-20, Jesus commands His followers to "go and make disciples of all nations," which inherently involves service to others.
  • Love for Others: The Bible emphasizes love for one's neighbor as a fundamental commandment (Leviticus 19:18, Matthew 22:39). Serving others is a direct expression of this love.
  • Using Our Gifts: Each person is given unique gifts and talents (Romans 12:6-8, 1 Corinthians 12:4-11, Ephesians 4:7-13). These are to be used for the benefit of others and to build up the body of Christ.
  • Caring for the Needy: The Bible consistently calls believers to care for the poor, the marginalized, and the vulnerable (James 1:27, Hebrews 13:2).

Important Note: The specific ways in which individuals are called to serve will vary. Some may be called to serve within a church setting, while others may be called to serve in their communities or through missions work.
